Obsidian - the Master Mineraloid?

It's easy to forget that Obsidian is a glass and not actually a crystal. And by that, I mean it has no crystal structure, it's amorphous, formed from molten lava. There are many mineraloids out there that are given equal value to genuine crystals but, like Clear Quartz, Black Obsidian stands out as the master of them all. But what makes it so special that I feel compelled to give it this title?  

Among the many crystals available on the market that are all about balance, Obsidian, in my experience, has the strongest will to bring it into your life. But, I suppose, it depends on your definition of what balance is and in which area of your life you are seeking it. In relation to the use of Obsidian, I can only really speak from my own experiences, which include the insight into the lives of hundreds of crystal therapy clients over the years, and there. are plenty of stories to draw upon there.

To be balanced, means to consider all sides and opinions equally, and to be a person that is balanced, we're often referring to the emotions. It's the ability to remain calm and think clearly, even when in the most difficult of situations, to be harmonious. Obsidian is keen to work with the individual on an emotional level in order to bring them into that state of harmony, and it does this by working with all of the aspects of Self that are affected by an emotional link. In considering all of these aspects equally, it gives us the opportunity to find balance in the present. 

Now this is not for the faint of heart.

Obsidian is created with the powerful combination of the elements of fire, water and earth. It uses these energies to keep you safe during your campaign, and it also ensures that you fully experience everything that is necessary to cleanse and release unwanted or unserving emotional links, and will often amplify them as a result. If you're just beginning your journey with crystals, or indeed, just setting out on a healing path that will have you facing all kinds of trauma or less than pleasant experiences, this may very well be overwhelming. And there are options if that is the case. It doesn't mean you have to abandon your quest before you even begin.
If you're so inclined, you can work with a guide or a mentor, or in a group setting. You can also work with one of the less intense varieties of Obsidian, such as Mahogany or Snowflake. However, if you're ready and willing to experience the emotions that may very well be triggered, Black Obsidian will be a willing companion on your journey.

Obsidian is deeply ingrained in the past.

It was considered the stone of the Mayan and Aztecs, as it was so abundant in the region it was used for everything. From jewellery to weaponry, Obsidian was considered extremely valuable, more valuable than Gold. It was also revered as a very spiritual material. Shamans and healers from many cultures held it in high regard. It's shiny, reflective surface is perfect for scrying, a way of 'seeing' into the past and the future. And it's this property that makes Obsidian such a powerful tool in the search for balance. Looking into the past we can explore our ancestral line and discover links that have been passed through the generations. Some, we will want to keep and perhaps even develop. Others, we will want to clear and release. Obsidian will assist with both. Not only does it discover the areas of our life that require our attention in the present, it also has the ability to support the healing of the area. And it's this that makes it my Master Mineraloid. 

Many crystals and mineraloids can seek and many can heal, but very few can do both, and none as effectively as Black Obsidian. It's entire existence is about seeking the truth, clearing away the nonsense, the lies, the deception, that we have received from others, as well as what we tell ourselves. When you find that much soul truth, you can restructure your entire life. Your beliefs, your understanding of the world around you, and most importantly, about what and how you want your life to be.

A most powerful mineraloid indeed.
